Louis M. Bokros, Sr.89 died September 29, 2017 at Assumption Village.
Lou was born October 29, 1927 in New Brighton, PA, a son of Louis and Josephine Bokros.
He was a 1945 graduate of Struthers High School where he was a top student athlete and also attended Arkansas Tech. He worked as a cement finisher for many years and was a General Forman at F. Ivan Law Inc. He went on to work at Cedarwood Development, where he was a construction superintendent for many projects around the country. He and his brother Ed contributed to building the Veterans Memorial at Struthers High School. Lou was a veteran of the United States Army and later the Army Reserves. While in the army, Lou was an accomplished boxer.
Lou was a member of Christ Our Savior Parish @St. Nicholas. He was also member of the Struthers VFW and the Cement Mason's Union Local 179. Lou was passionate about golfing, fishing, and attending his grandchildren's sporting events.
He and his beloved wife Sylvia were married in 1955 until she passed in 1992. He is survived by children, Louis (Lu Ann) Bokros Jr. of Beaver Twp., Sandra Bokros Grossman of Youngstown, Mike (Sharon) Kurjan of Poland, Kathy (Jack) Dalzell of Elyria, and Lennie (Tony) Petrarca of Akron; one brother, Ed (Mel) Bokros of Struthers; twelve grandchildren, Anthony and Jim, and Lisa Petrarca, Michael and Monica Kurjan, Morgan and Madison, and Abbey Bokros, Alana Louise Grossman, Robert, Sydney, and Jessica Zartman; two great-grandchildren, Mariah and Ethan Bokros; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents and wife, Lou was preceded in death by one sister, Elizabeth Jeanette Oney; and one brother, Donald Granchay.
A prayer service will be held Wednesday at 10:00AM at the Davidson-Becker Funeral Home, 11 Spring St., Struthers followed by A Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30AM, with Fr. Martin Celuch officiating. Interment will follow at St. John the Baptist Catholic Cemetery.
Friends and family will be received Tuesday from 5-7PM at the funeral home.
