STRUTHERS – Truman Smith, 91, went home to be with the Lord on Nov. 3, 2017, after suffering from Parkinson’s Disease for several years.
He was the husband of the late Mary (Borak) Smith, who died in March 1997.
Born in LaFollette, Tenn. on Jan. 31, 1926, he was the son of the late Benjamin and Texie (Miller) Smith.
He served his country honorably in the U.S. Army from 1945 to 1947.
He worked in the bessemer and open hearth furnace departments of the Youngstown Sheet & Tube Co. for 30 years, retiring in 1978 when the plant shut down.
Truman was a member of the Struthers Parkside Church.
Truman’s greatest love was his family. Growing up as a farm boy, he continued to enjoy gardening and watching flowers and bushes grow. The vegetables from his large backyard garden were enjoyed by all family members and neighbors. He could often be found helping family and neighbors with trimming bushes and other yard work.
Survivors include children David (Susan) of Nazareth, Pa., Elizabeth (Ken) of Lakewood, Colo., and Raymond (Shelly) of Littleton, Colo.; eight grandchildren, Allen, Karen, Jarrod, Eric, Robert, Rebecca, Jaclyn and Nicholas; 11 great-grandchildren; brother, Cleadis Smith of Lafollette, Tenn.; and several nieces and nephews.
Truman was predeceased by brothers Irvin, Loyd and Dennis Smith and sisters Mary Bullock, Leotha Fotta and Marcina Myers.
Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. on Saturday at the Davidson-Becker Funeral Home, 11 Spring St. in Struthers. The Reverend James Berkebile will preside. Interment will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Youngstown.
Calling hours will be held on Friday, Nov. 10, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
