Ann Lila Layton

Youngstown - Ann Lila Layton, 68, died early Saturday morning, November 15, 2014 at Beeghly Oaks.

Ann was born April 5, 1946 in Youngstown, a daughter of Luther Melvin and Anna Lila (Bell) Brooks.

She was a 1964 graduate of North High School and attended Youngstown State University. Mrs. Layton worked at St. Elizabeth Health Center as a phlebotomist and retired from General Motors after working on the assembly line for many years.

She was a member of Phillip's Chapel Church of God in Christ in Hubbard for over 35 years. Very active with the church, Mrs. Layton was a member of its Nurses Guild and Hospitality Committee, and she drove the church van.

Some of her favorite pastimes included shopping, finding a good yard sale, fishing, and especially spending time with her family and grandchildren. She will always be remembered by her family and friends for her beautiful and youthful spirit.

Her husband, Timothy Johnson, preceded her in death. She is survived by her son, Anthony (Marriea) Layton of Plano, TX; three brothers, Luther (Rosetta) Brooks Jr., Allan "Lucky" Brooks, and Lorenzo "Timmy" (Lolita) Brooks, all of Youngstown; three sisters, Juanita Wilson, Geraldine (Clarence) Baker, and Pearlene Quarles, all of Youngstown; three grandchildren, Anthony and David Layton and Tyonni Ward; and two great-grandchildren, Tylan Malachi Ward and Le'Nae Christian Marie Ward.

In addition to her parents and husband, Ann was preceded in death by two sisters, Delores "Honey" Brooks and Florence "Flossie" Gray; and two brothers, Johnny and Thomas "Tommy" Brooks.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday at 4 p.m. at Phillip's Chapel Church of God in Christ, 3903 Jacobs Rd., Hubbard.

Family and friends will be received on Saturday from 3 p.m. until the time of the service at the church.
