Arist J. Zambetis

Poland - Arist J. "Art" Zambetis, 85, died Wednesday morning, October 15, 2014 at St. Elizabeth Boardman Health Center.
Mr. Zambetis, affectionately known as "Art," was born July 22, 1929 in Campbell, a son of John and Katina Nicolaou Zambetis.
He was a 1946 graduate of Campbell Memorial High School. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army, serving for three years. Upon his discharge, Art attended Youngstown College and received his bachelor's degree in engineering from the University of Cincinnati College of Architect and Engineering. While in Cincinnati, he would meet his first wife, the former Helen Mazes, whom he married in 1953, and they later relocated back to the Youngstown area. Helen preceded Art in death in 1988.
Mr. Zambetis worked as an engineer for CAMCO Painting Service, retiring in 1995.
He was a member of St. John The Forerunner Greek Orthodox Church and its Senior Citizens, a 50 year member of the Masons of Ohio Scottish Rite in Cincinnati, and The Imperial Council of the Ancient Arabic Order of the Nobles of the Mystic Shrine in Cincinnati. He was also a member of the Order of the AHEPA-The American Hellenic Progressive Association, Youngstown Lincoln Chapter No. 89. He worked alongside his brother Cleo with the association and helped build an apartment housing complex for the elderly in Boardman via support of the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development.
In his spare time, Art enjoyed woodworking, making many pieces of furniture and wooden toys throughout the years, and building different projects around the house.
He is survived by his second wife, the former Shirley Glaser Nicodemo, whom he married November 23, 1991; daughter, Katina Z. (John Yaceczko) Jones of Georgia; son, John (Jane) Zambetis of Austintown; four stepchildren, James Nicodemo of Florida, Elisa (Andres) Maldonado of Florida, Cathy Safarek of Youngstown, and Michele (Mark) Weller of Canfield; beloved Papou to 17 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren; sister, Mary Birmingham of North Jackson; sister-in-law, Faye Zambetis of Canfield; and a host of nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents and first wife, Mr. Zambetis was preceded in death by two brothers, Gus and Cleo Zambetis; a nephew, Ted Conrad; and a step-daughter, Cindy Dunegan.
A funeral service will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at St. John The Forerunner Greek Orthodox Church, where family and friends will be received from 10:30 a.m. until the time of the service. Interment will follow at Lake Park Cemetery.
