Cindy Lee Uvena

BOARDMAN - Cindy Lee Uvena, 74, passed away Sunday morning at Assumption Village.

Cindy was born on July 12, 1941, in Youngstown, the daughter of the late Paul Fredrick and Mary Alice (Murray) Goodwin.

Cindy graduated from Boardman High School in 1959, and then received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Art Education. Her first teaching job was in Akron. She then went on to teach at Poland Middle School. In later years, she was employed at Adamas Showcase of Gifts, where she helped many brides with their bridal registries.

Cindy was an avid movie buff and reader. She also enjoyed flower arranging and gardening. She personally crocheted over 100 lap rugs for family and friends. Cindy was a member of St. Charles Church in Boardman.

Cindy greatly loved spending time with her grandchildren. Their favorite saying to one another when saying goodbye would be, Cindy saying, "see you later alligator," and they responded, "after a while crocodile."

Cindy married John Orlando Uvena on Aug. 12, 1967, at St. Christine Catholic Church in Youngstown. In addition to her husband of almost 48 years, she leaves behind her two children, Dr. Jennifer Ann (Dr. James) Celebrezze of Wexford, Pa. and Dr. John David (Suzanne) Uvena of Bolivar; her grandchildren, Halle, Nina and Jimmy Celebrezze and Samuel Uvena; her sister, Patty (Roger) Cooley; and brothers John (Carol) Goodwin and Jim (Kim) Goodwin. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews.

Family and friends may call Wednesday from 4 to 7 p.m and Thursday from 10 to 10:45 a.m. at the Davis-Becker Funeral Home, where a funeral service will be held Thursday at 11 a.m., with Fr. Fred Trucksis officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Cemetery.

Cindy's family requests any gifts take the form of contributions to the Beatitude House, 238 Tod Lane, Youngstown, OH 44504, or to Scleroderma Foundation, Ohio Chapter, P.O. Box 107, Pataskala, OH 43062.

Cindy's family would like to express their sincere appreciation for the wonderful care provided by the staff at Hampton Wood and Assumption Village.
