SEBRING - Dorothy Longwell Tidd, 98, formerly of Boardman, died Dec. 13, 2014, at Copeland Oaks.
Mrs. Tidd was born May 26, 1916, in Brookville, Pa., a daughter of John and Mary Watson Longwell.
She was a 1934 graduate of Brookville High School. Dorothy received her Bachelor's Degree from the College of Wooster in 1938 and her Master's in Latin from the University of Michigan in 1944. She later received Personnel and Guidance Certification from Westminster College in 1964.
Dorothy was a teacher in the Brockway Local Schools for five years and Boardman Local Schools for 23 years, retiring in 1996. She came to Boardman High School as a Latin and French teacher in 1943 and made Dean of Girls in 1946.
She was a member of the Boardman United Methodist Church, where she was a former member of the administrative board. She also was a member of American Association of University of Women, Boardman Garden Club, Gourmet Club, BUMC, Women's Society, Circle Leader NRTA, ORTA, AARP. Dorothy did volunteer work with both the Heart and Cancer Societies and was a member of the ETA Sigma Phi Classical Honorary Fraternity.
She enjoyed bird watching and cooking.
Her husband, James W. Tidd of Aug. 13, 1966, died Feb. 26, 1994.
She is survived by one half-brother, Paul R. Schmoyer of Painesville; a niece, Mary Ann (David) Rubin of Stow; and a great-nephew, Paul M. Rubin of Stow.
Besides her parents and husband, Dorothy was preceded in death by two stepsons, James and Allen Tidd; and one brother, Roger Longwell.
Services will be held at the Davis-Becker Funeral Home, 8536 Market St. in Boardman, on Wednesday at 11 a.m.
Friends and family will be received Wednesday from 10 to 10:45 a.m. at the funeral home.
