Lois Jean Johnston

Columbiana - Lois Jean Johnston, 83, formerly of Struthers, died Monday, July 7, 2014 at her home surrounded by family.

Mrs. Johnston was born March 21, 1931 in Youngstown, a daughter of the late Charles and Ethel Hartshorn Rhodes.

She was a 1949 graduate of Struthers High School. Lois worked as a switchboard operator for Ohio Bell before becoming a dedicated mother and homemaker. Mrs. Johnston and her husband, Randall, moved to Columbiana in 1969.

She enjoyed dancing, music, spending the winters in Florida with her husband, attending her grandchildren's sporting events and activities, and loved nothing more than surrounding herself around family.

Her husband of 62 years, Randall T. Johnston, died December 19, 2013. She is survived by two sons, Jeff (Tami) Johnston of North Lima and Randall Jay (Kay) Johnston of San Angelo, TX; daughter, Jodi Johnston Bowker of Columbiana; six grandchildren, Amanda Bowker, Alexis Johnston, Jeffrey Johnston, Ben (Pam) Johnston, Randy Johnston, and Kelli Johnston; great-grandchild, Benjamin Johnston; sister, Shirley (Bill) Strishock of Columbiana; and brother-in-law, Don Johnston of Struthers.

A private service will be held at the Davidson-Becker Funeral Home in Struthers. Interment will follow at Lake Park Cemetery.

The family wishes to extend their appreciation and thank Hospice of the Valley for the wonderful care they gave Lois. Contributions may be made in Mrs. Johnston's name to Hospice of the Valley, 5190 Market Street, Boardman, Ohio 44512.
