Matilda Brown, 79, of Boardman, died early Thursday morning, April 25, 2019 at Hospice of the Valley, Hospice House.
Matilda "Tillie" was born December 8, 1939 in Coalgood, KY, a daughter of Calvin and Grace Miller Smiddy.
Raised in Texas, Tillie was a graduate of Canyon High School, Class of 1958. For many years Tillie made her home in southern California and Missouri, before coming to this area to be with her son, Jay, and his family.
In California, Tillie worked as an inspector for Robert Shaw Grayson Controls and later as nurses aide for long term care facilities. Most recently she volunteered at St. Elizabeth Hospital at in-patient registration.
Tillie enjoyed decorating cakes, but most of all spending time with her grandson, Kash.
She leaves two sons, Joseph "Jay" (Melody) Dennick of Poland and Robert Dennick of Versailles, Missouri; one grandson, Kash Dennick of Poland; two brothers, Glen Smiddy of Kansas City, Missouri, and Archie Charles Ruggles of Amarillo, TX.
Besides her parents, Tillie was preceded in death by her brothers, Lawrence, Floyd, Alford, and Clarence Smiddy, and Archie and Vernon Ruggles; one sister, Carrie Belle Morris; and one daughter, Melody Lynne McSmith.
Tillie's wishes were to be cremated and that her final resting place be the Sierra Mountains.
