Poland - David N. Ludt, 84, a beloved pillar of the Poland community, passed away on September 25, 2024 at St. Elizabeth Health Center in Youngstown.
He was born November 27, 1939 in Poland, a son of the late John and Ella Mae (Horan) Ludt. He proudly served in the United States Army Special Forces as a Green Beret and in the 82nd Airborne, where he exemplified strength, courage, and loyalty. His time in the military remained a source of immense pride throughout his life, and he was a fervent supporter of all things veteran-related.
David was a lifelong member of the Poland United Methodist Church. He was the proud owner and operator of Ludt's Towing, a business he co-founded with his cherished brother, John C. Ludt, Jr. David's contributions extended beyond his military service and business ventures. As a Poland Township Trustee, he played a pivotal role in the creation of the Poland Township Police Department, working tirelessly to ensure the safety and well-being of his community. His commitment to public service continued when he served as a Mahoning County Commissioner, where he advocated for the region he loved. Though a man of action, David never sought the limelight; he preferred to work quietly, always eschewing attention and recognition for his deeds.
He leaves behind to cherish his memory his beloved wife, with whom he just celebrated 59 years of marriage with the former Sharon Madrid; his daughters, Diane (Phillip) Raptis and Lisa Ludt; his grandsons, Elias and David Raptis; and his brother, Timothy (Patricia) Ludt.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sisters, Susan Ewald and Sally Aey; and his brother, John C. Ludt Jr.
Private services were held and he was laid to rest at Poland Riverside Cemetery.
