David Scott Sweeney

January 27, 1953 — April 25, 2024

Struthers

Struthers - David Scott Sweeney left this earthly life on April 25, 2024 surrounded by his loving family.

He was born in Youngstown OH on January 27, 1953 and was the son of the late Virginia (Lambert) and Charles Sweeney.

He graduated from Chaney High School in 1972 and worked for the General Motors Lordstown plant before retiring. Dave and Mary Ann were blessed with twenty-eight wonderful years of marriage. Together they raised two children and later were blessed with their grandchildren. In his spare time, you could often find him diving deep into historical novels and articles. Whether it was world history or even local history, Dave was always eager to learn and share his knowledge with others. There was never a moment where you didn’t see him enjoying a cup of coffee or cheering on the Cleveland Browns or Ohio State. He enjoyed working on cars, eating a good plate of spaghetti or a piece of pizza. Above all, he cherished the moments of being an amazing husband, father, papa, brother, and friend.

He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, the former Mary Ann Tesyk, whom he married on February 14, 1996; daughter, Kelly Sweeney; and son, David (Bailey) Sweeney. He leaves three granddaughters, Ensley, Adley, and Kaleah Sweeney, as well as Baby Sweeney due this July. David also leaves two sisters Linda (Art) Gierescher of Peoria AZ, and Karen (Paul) Kalosky of Canfield, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his sister, Diane Teutsch; an infant brother, Kenneth Michael and his special “buddy,” Rowan Sweeney, his grandson whom he will be reunited with for all eternity.

Mary Ann always referred to her loving husband as the “Energizer Bunny” in tribute to his ability to meet his many health challenges over the years and bounce back.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests monetary donations be made to rowansmemorialpark.com or Rowan Sweeney Foundation at Huntington Bank.

Calling hours will be held on Friday, May 3, 2024, from 4:00 p.m. to 5:45 p.m. at the Davidson- Becker Funeral Home, Struthers. A funeral service will follow at 6:00 p.m.
