Poland - Dominic Ronald Lepore, age 94, passed away Saturday, July 20, 2024, at Hospice of the Valley's Hospice House, surrounded by his family.
Dominic was born March 4, 1930 in Campbell, Ohio, a son of the late Crescenzo and Crugifissa Centofanti Lepore, who immigrated to the United States from Sulmona, Italy.
He was a graduate of the 1949 Class of Struthers High School., where he was known for his curly hair and blue suede shoes. Dominic loved to dance, especially at the Idora Park Ballroom.
On October 2, 1954, he married the love of his life, Mary Carmel Tirimacco, whom he missed dearly. She preceded him in death on January 6, 2019. He is survived by four children, Diane (Dave) Umbel, Linda (Scott) Benson, Christine McKay, all of Poland, and Christopher (Melinda) Lepore of Portland, Oregon; eight grandchildren, Lauren (Sara) Umbel, Dr. Benjamin (Amy) Umbel, Matthew (Eiryn) McKay, Meredith (Ryan) Smith, Michelle (Aleko) Frangopoulos, Courtney (Michael) Patsko, Dominic Lepore, and Elliana Lepore; and twelve great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Nell DeLapotaire of Maryland and sister-in-law, Nina Zavatsky of Poland.
In addition to his parents and wife, Dominic was also preceded in death by his sister, Sandra Sandy Sabelli.
In 1951, he was inducted into the United States Army and served as a courier responsible for classified documents. He was honorably discharged in 1953, returned to his home in Struthers, and began his career as a bricklayer with the Bricklayers and Allied Craft Workers Local #8 of Youngstown. In 1965, he was elected Business Manager for the Union and retired in 1992 after serving 43 years in his trade. Dominic loved his trade and marveled at the workmanship, art, and hard work that went into a brick building. Sadly, it is a trade that is not seen much today.
Dominic enjoyed his retirement years to the fullest. He loved all sports but especially enjoyed golfing with his many friends, the occasional visit to the casino, smoking a great cigar, and weekly poker games. Dom's infectious personality made it easy for him to make friends anywhere he went. He was well read, especially in all areas of history. His greatest joy was being a grandfather and attending all of his grandchildren's games, from playing T-ball to college basketball. He was their biggest fan and remembered every play and game.
The family would like to thank all of his caregivers; Janet, Patty, Rosie, Kim, Nancy, and Christina for their love and care. They would also like to thank Hospice of the Valley for their extraordinary care and kindness. Memorial tributes may be sent in Dominic's name to Hospice House, 9803 Sharrott Rd., Poland, OH 44514.
