Frederick A. Marks

September 7, 1935 — August 16, 2024

Youngstown

Youngstown -Frederick Allen Marks, 88, of Youngstown, passed away Friday, August 16, 2024, at Aventura at Assumption Village.

He was born September 7, 1935 in Youngstown, a son of the late Stephen and Helen (Toth) Marko.

Fred was a 1953 graduate of South High School. On August 22, 1959, he married the love of his life, the former Magda Vona, and together shared 42 wonderful years of marriage before her passing in 2001. Together they were blessed with their two daughters and later four grandchildren who affectionately called them Grammy and Gramps.

He began his work experience at Roman Cycle Shop as a motorcycle mechanic; he loved both riding and fixing them. He then went on to work at Republic Steel where he worked as a machinist until the infamous demise of the Youngstown steel industry. American Paper in Boardman was his last place of employment where he once again was part of the maintenance team as a machinist. Known by his family as Mr. Fix It, Fred showed an array of knowledge and skills in being able to fix any object given to him. Fred also enjoyed the simple things in life, whether that was tending to his vegetable garden, reading the daily paper, playing the violin, or tinkering in his basement and garage. He was an animal lover at heart who fed the many strays of the neighborhood when one of them, Miss Kitty, became his most beloved companion. But most of all, he cherished spending time with his family being a loving husband, father, and gramps.

He is survived by his two daughters, Diana (Domenic) Currao of Austintown, and Laura (Ron) Kephart of New Springfield; four grandchildren, Michael Currao, Lisa Currao, Chloe Kephart and Doug Kephart; and brother, Randy Marko.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by his sister and brother-in-law, Janice and Joseph Maderitz.

Calling hours will be held on Saturday, August 24, 2024, from 12:00 p.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the Davis-Becker Funeral Home, 8536 Market St., Boardman, OH 44512 with a mercy lunch immediately following at the Becker Family Center located on-site.
