POLAND — Jack Mitchell Barns, 90, died Friday, Nov. 11, 2022, at The Inn at Poland Way.

Jack was born April 3, 1932, in South Bend, Ind., a son of Mitchell and Olga Byam Barns, and moved to Lakewood as a young boy.

In September 1950, he married Joanne Cunningham of Poland, where the new Mr. and Mrs. Barns would settle and live. They celebrated 66 years of marriage until Joan’s passing, Nov. 23, 2016.

Jack worked as a salesman for Standard Slag before retiring in the late 1980s. In his free time, he enjoyed golf, bowling and watching Cleveland sports teams, as well as Ohio State and Notre Dame football. He was also active with the Poland Community Little League Baseball Association as a coach and manager for over 20 years.

Jack was a longtime member of Poland Presbyterian Church.

He is survived by his sons, Mitchell (Diann) Barns and John Barns. His memory will continue as well through grandchildren, Edward (Ashley) Sudol, Jaclyn (fiance, Justin) Sudol, Jennifer (Josh) Kale, Melissa (fiance, Josh) Barns and Hannah Barns; and great-grandchildren, Savannah, Alyssa, Raegan, Jack, Isabella, JJ, Finn, Layla and Landon.

In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Suzanne, in June 2015.

A private service was held at Poland Riverside Cemetery, with the Rev. Dr. Paul Anderson officiating. There were no calling hours.

Memorial donations may be made to Angels for Animals, 4750 W. South Range Road Canfield, OH 44406, in honor of Jack’s beloved rescue dog, Maggie.

The family wishes to thank Ohio Living Hospice and its staff, including Francine Horn, for their amazing care, and The Inn at Poland Way, where he resided in comfort during his final days.
