James L. Roemer, Jr. Poland- James Louis Roemer, Jr., 91, of the Commons of Greenbriar died Wednesday in St. Elizabeth Health Center. Mr. Roemer was born June 21, 1911 in Youngstown a son of James L. Roemer, Sr. and Alice Gough.. He lived in Struthers moving to Poland in 1950. He had lived in Naples, Florida from 1977 until returning here this year. He was the superintendent of the Tube Mill of LTV in Youngstown before transferring to the same position with LTV in Gary, Indiana, retiring in 1972 after 43 years. He graduated from Struthers High School in 1930 where he was president of the senior class. He participated in many sports, excelling in basketball and football where he was captain. He attended the former Youngstown College. He was a member of the Church of the Rock. He was a member of St. Albans Lodge # 677, F& AM. He was a founding member of the Struthers Croquet Club and had been a member of the Tubular Products Committee of the American Iron and Steel Institute. Mr. Roemer was an avid fisherman and enjoyed writing and reading poetry and listening to classical music. His wife of 72 years, the former Kathryn âa�A"Katieâa�A� Helen Ralston died September 30, 2002. He leaves a daughter, JoAnn (Dick) Creed of Struthers; a son James (Donna) Roemer of Hartstown, Pennsylvania; three sisters, Isabel Sperry of Santa Barbara, California, Betty Bowersox of Leesburg, Florida and Pollyanna Ketchum of Youngstown; seven grandchildren and ten great grandchildren. A sister, Mary Roemer and brothers Dahl and Jack Roemer are deceased. Private funeral services were at noon Friday at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home in Poland.
