Janet Kay (Edmister) Sowers

March 15, 1948 — November 21, 2021

New Middletown

Janet Kay Sowers, 73, passed away unexpectedly, Sunday afternoon, November 21, 2021 at her residence.

Janet, affectionately known as Jan, was born March 15, 1948 in Columbus, Ohio, a daughter of Edward and Elsie Green Edmister.

Raised in Columbus, Jan was a graduate of Eastmoor High School, Class of 1966. In 1974, Jan settled with her family in the Newton Falls area and later moved to New Middletown. A support specialist, Jan retired from Comcast Cable in Chippewa, PA after 20 years of service.

Jan was a fan of the Ohio State Buckeyes and Cleveland Browns. She loved attending country music concerts, especially her favorites, Eric Church and Kenny Rogers and enjoyed traveling to California.

Jan will be remembered for her big heart and generous ways. She always put other people's needs before her own. She handled life's difficult lessons with a smile, a positive attitude, and ALWAYS got back on her feet. Her children were the center of her life, her best friends, and her greatest love.

She leaves to cherish her memory, her daughter, Cheri Sowers of North Jackson; two brothers, Terry (Susan) Edmister of Columbus and Mitch (Brook) Edmister of Cotati, California; two sisters, Judy (Johnnie) Edmister Gaines of Columbus and Lindy Thomas of Arlington, Texas; four grandchildren, Devon, Darian, Haley, and Riley Sowers; three great-grandchildren, Myla, Alexandria, and Elliana; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Jan was preceded in death by her parents and her son, Darrin Sowers in 2006.

"Her light shines in the darkness."

Per Jan's wishes there will not be a funeral service or visitation.
