Joseph R. Kreidler, 96, passed away Wednesday morning, March 13, 2024, at his home surrounded by loved ones.  

He was born August 2, 1927 to German immigrant parents, Kate (Merk) and Joseph Kreidler in Youngstown, Ohio.

He lived all his life in the North Lima area until moving to Northridge Gracious Living Retirement Community in Fishers, Indiana in 2021 to be close to stepdaughter, Linda Sovacool.

When he started first grade, he spoke only German and did not know the English language.  He was a 1945 graduate of North Lima High School and attended Ohio State University and Youngstown State University.

He was a Staff Sergeant in the Army of Occupation in the Finance Office during the Second World War for 3 years, stationed in Germany.

His lifetime career was in the construction business.  He was CEO, President, and Treasurer of Kreidler Construction Company of Poland, Ohio, until his retirement in 2004.  He had been a member for over 50 years of the Youngstown Brick Layers Local #8 of Eastern Ohio and a member of the Builders Association of Eastern Ohio and Western Pennsylvania.

He was a member of Good Hope Evangelical Lutheran Church in North Lima and served on the church council and various offices.  He was an honorary lifetime member of the Beaver Township Ruritan Club, having 18 years of perfect attendance and served in several offices of the club.

He enjoyed traveling with his wife to over 43 countries around the world and all of the 50 United States.  He enjoyed reading and daily walks in the various parks with Alice and their dogs. He lived a full long life unselfishly devoted to his wife and family.  

He leaves his wife, the former Alice Mellinger, whom he married on October 15, 1965; four sons, Robert of Boardman, Ohio, James of Mantua, Ohio, Anthony (Jan) of Portsmouth, VA, and David (Ken) of Houston, TX; one daughter, Kelly (David) Dunlap of Columbiana, Ohio; three step-children, Gary Weisenberger of Las Vegas, NV, Alan (Kerri) Weisenberger of Garden Grove, CA, and Linda (Robert) Sovacool of Noblesville, IN; 16 grandchildren, Toni Bayne, Honie (Tony) Latak, Katie Kreidler, Cara Suttles, Jamie Bosley, Joseph Kreidler, Stefan Kreidler, Matthew (Ashley) Kreidler, Jason (Samantha) Kreidler, Bryan Dickens, Selah (Ken) Short, Kelsey Weisenberger, Jenna Weisenberger, Erika Sovacool, Kelly Sovacool and Kate Sovacool; 14 great grandchildren, 2 great-great grandchildren; and one brother, William of North Lima.  

He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Virginia (Norman) Razo and Gertrude (Gabriel) Bonish; and sister-in-law, Sandra Kreidler.

The Kreidler Family would like to thank Suburban Hospice for the wonderful care they provided for Joe and so much help for Alice.

Friends will be received at Davis-Becker Funeral Home, 8536 Market St, Boardman, Ohio, on Friday, March 22,  2024 from 5-7 p.m. A funeral service will be held Saturday, March 23, 2024, at the funeral home at 10 a.m., followed by entombment at Green Haven Memorial Gardens.
