Mary Ellen was born September 7, 1927 in New Castle, PA, a daughter of Donald and Evelyn Troop McIlwain.
Mary Ellen was a graduate of New Castle High School and upon graduation worked for Bell Telephone. On November 7, 1947, she married Neal E. Bruner and became a dedicated homemaker, wife, and mother. They made their home in New Castle until moving to Poland in 1961. Mary Ellen enjoyed being an Avon representative for over 20 years and also working for Weight Watchers in the 1970s.
A woman of faith, Mary Ellen was a member of the former Fairview Immanuel Baptist Church and the Poland Village Baptist Church. She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star Miriam Chapter. In her leisure time, Mary Ellen enjoyed making crafts, crossword puzzles, flower and vegetable gardening, swimming, and cooking.
She leaves to carry on her memory, her children, Christopher Bruner of Boardman, Edys (Dennis) Dyer of Berlin Center, and Marsha (Stephen) Powell of Madison; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces.
In addition to her parents, Mary Ellen was preceded in death by her husband, Neal, on January 19, 2018; son, Randolph Bruner; sister, Phylis McIlwain; daughter-in-law, Diana Bruner; and great-granddaughter, Julia Bruner.
There will be no calling hours. A private service was held for the family. Interment will be at Graceland Cemetery in New Castle.
