Mary J. (Krajci) Piacentini

November 3, 1929 — November 21, 2023

Poland - Mary Joan Piacentini passed away on Tuesday, November 21, 2023, after a courageous battle with chronic illness over the past five years.  She was 94.

Mary was born on November 3, 1929 during The Great Depression of 1929 in New York City, NY, to parents Henry and Veronica Krajci.

Her gentle, kind, and loving spirit was felt by all who knew and loved her.  Her passing has left a void for her family and friends but her guiding spirit will continue to be a beacon of strength that will forever inspire us all through the difficult times ahead.

She was a resilient woman whose inner strength and determination in the face of overwhelming obstacles confronted life's challenges with dignity, humility, and determination.  Her spirit will live on forever in the hearts and minds of her loved ones and those she touched with her infectious smile.

On May 12, 1947, she married her husband, Mario S. Piacentini, a World War II veteran who passed away on February 11, 1991 at the age of 72.

She was a Girl Scout troop leader and Den Mother for her son's Cub Scout den.  She enjoyed cooking, knitting, and taking care of her adoring children.  She loved decorating the house for the holidays.  Christmas was her favorite time of year.

She enjoyed spending time with her family and raised two loving daughters and an adoring son who cared for her until her passing.

Mary is survived by her daughter, Carol A. (Michael) DeStefano and a son, Mario M. Piacentini; a granddaughter, Lisa Moran; and grandsons, Michael DeStefano, John Goerlitz, Adam Goerlitz; great-granddaughters, Kennedy Moran, McKenzie Moran, and Allysa Goerlitz; and a great-grandson, Tyler Goerlitz.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a sister, Lillian Patruzzo; a brother, Bobby; her husband of 43 years; and her daughter, Joanne Goerlitz who also fought her own courageous battle with chronic kidney disease.

Sleep in peace, you will always be in our hearts and memories.

Per Mary's request, there was a private funeral on Monday, November 27, 2023, at Davis-Becker Funeral Home, 8536 Market Street in Boardman with Deacon Paul Lisko officiating.
