One of ten children, Nick was born March 8, 1939 in Acosta, Pennsylvania, a son of the late Nick and Louise (Zaksek) Gentile.

Nick was also a member of the ARCO Club and Christ Our Savior Parish at St. Nicholas Roman Catholic Church in Struthers.
