NormaJean Infante

March 20, 1934 — January 18, 2024

NormaJean Infante went to heaven Thursday evening, January 18, 2024. She had been ill for several weeks and God decided it was her time.

The daughter of Frank and Grace Barchie, NormaJean was born March 20th, 1934. She graduated at the head of her class from Chaney High School in 1952 and later attended Youngstown State University where she received certification as a Medical Technologist. She worked in the Youngstown medical system, continuing her medical career at various posts during her husband’s 30-year Army career.

While working her way through college, she met her husband, Don. They married on May 9th, 1959, and 2nd LT. and Mrs. Infante departed Youngstown June 1959 for what they thought was a two-year Army tour. They would return to Fort Bliss in August 1985 when her husband assumed command of the Post as a Major General. She served as First Lady of the Post for four years. They retired from the Army in August 1989 and her husband began a 16-year second career with the Raytheon Corporation selling the Patriot Air Defense System, retiring in 2012 to become a consultant. NormaJean, as the head of the household, continued working.

Between their 30-year career in the US Army and their 16-year career with Raytheon, they lived in thirty-one different homes. The couple retired to Clearwater, Florida in 2002 and lived on the beach for ten years. In 2012, they moved to the Regency Oaks Community, and resided there until her death.

NormaJean is survived by her beloved husband, Don; two special needs children who provided her with much happiness, Dean and Renee, who live in Youngstown and reside in a separate home supervised by Gateways to Better Living; as well as many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Mildred Will and brother, Robert Barchie.

The family will receive friends from 10:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. on Friday, February 2, 2024, at the Davis-Becker Funeral Home, followed at 11:00 a.m. by a memorial celebration of her life, officiated by Pastor Brian Etheridge.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Gateways to Better Living, 6000 Mahoning Avenue, Suite 234, Austintown, Ohio 44515 in her memory.
