Robert W. Allen

Robert W. Allen, 86 Poland - Robert W. Allen, 86, of 3091 Highland Ave, died Sunday morning at his residence after a long illness. Mr. Allen was born December 11, 1916 in Youngstown, a son of Samuel Reese and Laura Pifer Allen. He was a life-long area resident. He was employed at the Youngstown Sheet and Tube for 35 years retiring as Superintendent of the Merchant Mills in Struthers in 1970. After graduating from Struthers High School in January of 1935 he immediately began work at the Youngstown Sheet and Tube as a laborer in the seamless tube mill. Later he became a roll turner in the merchant mills and in 1946 he became Assistant Superintendent of the roll shop. In 1966 he was appointed Superintendent of the merchants mills. After retirement he worked part-time at the Omega Door Company. He was a lifetime member of Westminster Presbyterian Church where he was a 63-year member of The Leighninger Class and was active in the used-book sale for 30 years. He was a member of the Mahoning Valley Industrial Management Association, Poland Lodge F&AM 766, Aut Mori Grotto, and the Duck & Dive and Ball & Chain Square Dance Clubs. Besides his wife the former Barbara Ann Arnold who he married June 10, 1939 he leaves one daughter, Susan Mikelonis of Palm Harbor, Florida; two sons, John Reese (Tara) Allen of Mt. Dora, Florida and Daniel Robert (Peggy) Allen of Sarasota, Florida; two sisters, Elinor Olson and Norma Allen both of Youngstown and five grandchildren, Scott Allen, Wendy Oliverio, Kathie Allen, Matt Mikelonis and Laurie Matthews. Funeral Services will be Friday,,11:00 AM at Westminster Presbyterian Church in Boardman. Friends may call Thursday, 5-8 PM at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home, Poland and Friday from 10-10:45 AM in church.
