Thelma Thornton, 86 POLAND- Thelma Thornton, 86, of the Blackburn Home, died early Sunday morning at St. Elizabethâa�a��s Health Center. Mrs. Thornton was born October 3, 1916 in Youngstown, a daughter of Oscar L and Bertha Helbling Gratz. She was a lifelong area resident. She was a 1934 graduate of South High School. She managed Interstate Latex Company for 26 years and worked at Cowell-Hubbard Jewelers, retiring in 1978. She was a member of the Knights of Columbus Ladies Auxiliary post 3930 and Saint Patrickâa�a��s Church in Youngstown. Her husband, John M. Thornton, whom she married April 24, 1935, died in 1995. She leaves four sisters, Bertha (Bill) Amendol of Youngstown, Rita (Andrew) Rozum of Cleveland, Delores Thornton of Poland, and Anna Schmitt of Pittsburgh; a brother, Leo (Mary) Gratz of Struthers; and several nieces and nephews. Besides her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Dorothy Malone. Funeral Services will be Wednesday 9:15 AM at the Davidson-Becker Funeral Home, Struthers and 10:00 AM at St. Patrickâa�a��s Church in Youngstown. Friends may call Tuesday from 5-8 PM at the funeral home.
