New Middletown - Edwin Francis Mannion, 91, passed away Tuesday evening, December 3, 2019 at Hospice of the Valley, Hospice House.

Edwin was born November 24, 1928 in Beaver Falls , PA, a son of the late Edwin Sr., and Veda McConahy Mannion.

Raised in Youngstown, Edwin attended Woodrow Wilson High School until enlisting in the United States Marine Corps at the age of 16. He served in Guam for two years and was honorably discharged November 10, 1947. After returning to the area, Edwin received his G.E.D.  For over 29 years he worked as a conductor for the Erie Lackawanna Railroad, retiring in 1977. He went on to work as a custodian for the Boardman School District for over 20 years.

Edwin was a member of the Sons of the American Revolution and Bethel Lutheran Church in Boardman. His favorite pastimes included fishing and golfing which included the annual Fathers Day golf outings with his sons. He also enjoyed attending his grandchildren sporting events and more recently perusing garage sales, auctions, and Rogers Flea Market.

His first wife of 40 years, the former Gloria Jean Codespoti passed away June 27, 1988. Edwin leaves his wife, the former Virginia Helman, whom he married December 12, 1994; six sons, Edwin (Georgia) Mannion III of Petersburg, OH, Kenneth Mannion of Sharon, PA, Daniel (Terri) Mannion of Austintown, OH, Timothy (Marge) Mannion of Hubbard, OH, David (Mariann) Mannion of Beloit, OH, Theodore Mannion of Petersburg, OH; one daughter, Linda Thompson of Poland, OH; two step-daughters, Terri Rae (Peter) Maneha of Kanoche, HI, and Roxann Renee (Jeff) Brazile of Roseville, CA; one step-son, Brian Ross (Janet) Springer of Mt Pocono, PA; one brother, Robert (Martha) Mannion of Winston Salem, NC; one sister-in-law, Marilyn Mannion of New Middletown, OH; eleven grandchildren, James, Danny Paul Jr., Melinda, Amber, April, Ashley, Lindsey, David Jr., Dominic, Aaron, and Timothy; and five great-grandchildren, Ezra, Ellie, Emilyn, Corissa, and Eva.

In addition to his parents and wife, Edwin was preceded in death by two brothers, William and Eugene Mannion.

A funeral service celebrating his life will be held Friday, 1:00 p.m. at the Cunningham-Becker Funeral Home, Poland with Rev. Richard Kidd officiating.  Interment will follow at the Poland Riverside Cemetery.

Friends will be received prior to the service on Friday from 11:00 a.m. until 12:45 p.m. at the funeral home.
